I just replaced the oil pump, timing chains, cam phaser deletes, cam followers, lash adjusters, I use mobile 1 synthetic 5-20 and motorcraft filter. Finished it up truck sounded great driver about 200-300 miles and boom now sounds like an old 7.3 at idle. Not just start up.

 

Did you use the high volume Melling pump that everyone recommends?

Try some 10W40 and see if that helps.

I pulled the valve covers back off and turned the engine over by hand. One spot the driver side cam make a clunk.

 

I had same knocking issues....tensioner had broke and chain was slapping front cover. Used the 4 part series on YouTube that had all links to parts, torque specs ect. FLAWLESS! You must use all Ford parts, high volume oil pump. Yrs it is a little more cost but well worth it when it comes to frustration. These are the links
