Police 4.6
I've driven the police 4.6 in Crown Vics for several years and never had one engine-related problem. I do not baby engines and would really give the 4.6 a workout. While it's a little low on power and torque, the 4.6 will sure carry a lot of reves to compensate. 130 mph is the fastest I could ever get out of the Crown Vic/4.6 combo. I've also driven the Chev 5.7 (350c.i.) LT1 in police cars...now that's a super engine; lotsa hp and loads of torque. The last Caprices made were by far the best car ever build by GM...beat them up all day and they still held up with no probs. Now, GM is trying to sell the latest version of the Impala to law enforcement. What a laugh! The new "Impala" doesn't hold a candle to the old Caprice/Impala and isn't any improvement over the current "old" Crown Vic. IMHO, of course. (Oooops, this was supposed to go under the "Top ten engines posting below)

Marv,
Yep, boy did GM blow it in 1996 when they ceased building RWD vehicles like the Caprice for police use.
Many departments now are using Tahoes, Expys and Yukons to take their place but they sure don't handle like the Caprice or Crown Vics.
I don't think the FWDs would hold up very well as a police car today.

The tahoes run the LT1 engines also. I read somewhere that GM didnt sell enough Caprices, and thats why they discontinued them. Yeah, it was dumb, and it was dumb AGAIN to make the Impala Front wheel drive. I think the Impala is junk, imho.
My '98 Ranger ran 0-60 in 7 seconds, too.
And 0-100 in not too much more than that, as I found out accidentally while merging onto the highway...
(Thanks to Superchips!)

Well, if you look at the Impala you can see why they are referred to as Goofy Motors. WHAT IS UP with that rear end? What were they thinking?
I can't help it. I associate a face and a personality with a car.
What do you get when you add curb feelers to a '98 Taurus?
A catfish.
BTW- I have heard the Tahoe handles extremely well in police trim. One article says it is better than the Caprice. Can't validate that, though.
