Air to Fuel Ratio 2008 5.4 Triton
Air to Fuel Ratio 2008 5.4 Triton
Hello.all,
We just installed the KN cold air intake and Bully Dog. Running the stock tune right now.
No.codes, as if yet.. fingers crossed
The AF ratio shows 8.0.
I am newb, is this AFR acceptable? I would think yes as the ECM hasnt thrown a code.
Please reply with your thoughts

If it's really at 8.0, it's screwed up pretty good. Stoichiometric A/F is supposed to be 14.7. If you find that confusing, you need for one(1) kg fuel, 14.7 kg of air. Your engine is running terribly rich. FWIW, your truck came with a good cold air intake from the factory. The K&N is a major step backward. Frankly, even with a highly modded engine, the K&N is still a waste of money. The Gotts mod is eons ahead of the K&N if you just want to mess with the truck. But even the Gotts mod is only useful at peak, hammer down rpms and has little to no effect at normal driving engine speeds.
Hi Labnerd,
Thanks for the quick reply.
That 8.0 doesn't move. I finally received a call from the Bully Dog tech, and was told that they dont monitor the A/F ratio for that year of truck.
That would explain why I am not seeing any change in the value.
The stock intake system was pretty bad. The PO had a lack luster mechanic working on his truck for several years. All told it is in pretty good shape though. 200K miles. The KN system almost free and according to the bullydog I am getting about 4 mpg better. I will test this out the old fashioned way on Sunday when we go for a 300 mile run.
Thank you again
Fritz
