Warm engine RPM 2001 - 4.6L Triton
Does anyone know what the proper warm/hot idle RPM
should be ? Both in NEURTAL and DRIVE. The engine runs
rough in drive, after warm-up, the oem tach reads 550 RPM.
Dealer tells me all tests on the engine are OK. I would like
to measure it myself using an old Sears Tach/Dwell meter
I have, to check the dash tach for accuracy. Thanks, Art

Idle problems
Hey Art
See my signature below for info on my truck, when cold it idles between 800-1000 rpm and as it warms up the idle comes down to about 550-600 rpm. As for the rough idle there are two things you can do that might help a little, 1) locate the IAT sensor ( incoming air tempurature sensor ) it`s between the throttle body and the maff sensor, pull it out and clean it off, i use carb cleaner to clean mine. 2) Remove the MAF sensor ( mass air flow sensor )
and spray the sensor wires inside with card cleaner, this will remove any oil or dust that might have got on the elements in the sensor. I do this to my truck about once a month and it does make a difference, and i haven`t had any problems so far.
I hope this helps.
Larry.
