rough cost estimate to replace cam phaser in 2005 ford expedition limited

I'm looking for a rough estimate for the price to replace cam phaser in a 2005 ford expedition. It's a used vehicle for sale, but I'm wondering if it's worth the repair if I buy it!??

Depends on the mechanic and going local labor rates.

$1,500 to upwards of $3,000.

Eh, unless you are getting this vehicle at a heck of a great price, then I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Replacing just the phasers will solve the problem temporarily. The oil pump is the bigger problem with the 5.4 3v engines. It doesn't have enough pressure to operate the phasers correctly. Starves the heads of oil. Without upgrading the oil pump, the problem is likely to reoccur.

The recommend replacement oil pump is a Melling.
