5.4 engine swap
5.4 engine swap
I have an 06 f150 4x4 5.4l with a bad engine and I just want change it out. I can get a 2010 f350 long block only for cheap and close to home. If I install all my 2006 external components on this engine will it be a direct swap? The short block is identical the head on the 2010 look the same except for the 12mm spark plugs. Camshafts, intake and exhaust gaskets are the same part numbers so my manifolds will fit seems too good to be true ! Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks
The only major difference is the seals and gaskets in fuel delivery system are made for a higher ethanol content. Which is actually better.
But what glc said is correct, it will just work a regular gas engine.

2010 motor in 2005 f150
Alright so I did this swap probably like a year ago and did not touch the truck until now. Work was hectic so I had no chance to work on the truck, the problem is the engine is running super rough almost to the point of stalling out. I changed spark plugs, coil packs, checked for vacuum leaks, no dtcs, check the fuel pressure from the bottom of the vehicle coming out of the fuel pump and the pressure was a little higher than normal, I also changed the fuel driver module. Any suggestions? I have attached videos to show how bad it’s running.

I think I would check every connection that I could to make sure as possible everything is hooked up properly. If that doesn't fix it, you may need to get someone with a professional scanner to take a look at it.
I have an Autel TS608. Since there is no dtcs what should I look for in the data monitor? The funny thing is, there is times where it will run smoothly and then it will run like it did in the video. Idk if it could be an injector issue or an ecm issue. And then when it runs like ****, it backfires on the driver side exhaust manifold.
I've got the same question I have a 2004 5.4 3 valve engine and am looking at a 2005 3valve . But the senior members of this forum keep saying as far as I know they will. That literally means that you don't know
The better question, *however unlikely,* can you swap in a LATER 3V and still not have that cause sude issues, like, a computer swap, some odd moved hole or port or manifold, "change/improve it while we're at it."
But the odds for some parts is with you, and very worth asking, to avoid problems the earlier ones had... centered I think around the phasers. And THAT said, guys here say the earlier ones just need the right oil and maint to avoid problems. I bet (your money) that 04-06, and maybe 7, all suffer the same size and shapes... aling with the same problems, reported.
Think about it - there's hardly time for '04 3V problems to be discovered, or considered, much less fixed in an '05. I'm ****, but history says, this us what would have [NOT] happened; (a change between '04 & '05.)
You can go to O'Reilly's and etc, and see if parts are the same. Injectors, or whatever general area that you think could be changed in that area. Call Dorman about 'some certain phaser part' (or whatever,) for an '05, and then near the end, ~"Oh crap - I'm sorry. It's an '04. I just got it." Compare parts numbers. PROBE: "What year WAS it that the 3V's got these problems fixed, anyway?!? '06? '07?" You might get back: " My parts book/computor say this part changes after '07."
