Well, sure, but are there any caveats? Computer swap or reprogram? (And IF it were me, I'm in CAlif, I'd ask if it would trigger a wrong-year smog alert, which a 'puter swap would.) But the Jr Member, sort of like me when I was new, (and did not ask correctly perhaps,) but in any case, did not get a reply as clear as you just gave me. And I'm certain that he would want to know of any caveats known. As you point out, a lot of water under the bridge. Mine is a 2V, but I would have been interested in, as Paul Harvey said, "the REST of the story."

I'm pretty sure the 04 computer will run an 05 engine without reprogramming.

You'd think... But my '02 2V has enough money and effort into it that I am V unlikely to search out a 3V of a some, "safer," later year. Still, it's nice to add the basics of this year over that, this Gen over that, to my knowledge base on these. Now I hear my very late-delivered, used engine, "looks" [UnInspected by the vendor, as claimed,] "looks questionable." Stress. Heck. Tomorrow is another day. I need to locate the 10th gen thread where I had mentioned my 5.4 4x4 eng replacement project.

Thanks as always, GLC...

No, you do not want to put a 3V engine in a truck with a 2V. This gets confusing when you start posting in an existing thread with a different situation.

To get back to the ORIGINAL topic, car-part.com only lists 2004 3V engines to replace a 2004 3V, but it's my understanding that later engines WILL work without too many hassles. If you have a 2005, a 05-08 engine is a direct swap and a later engine can be made to work without too many hassles.

Did you find a solution to your issue? I have a friend with 2005 Ford f150 5.4. He swapped engine from a 2008. Having the same issues as you described. Obd port has power. Scan device reads restraint control module but no communication from anything else. Check engine light is on.

It’s mostly a good fit, but the 12mm spark plugs on the 2010 F350 head might require adjustments to your ignition system. Ensure all components like the timing and sensors match up. Double-check compatibility with your 2006 F150 wiring and accessories to avoid issues;
