temp sensors

my1998 for f150 has 2 temp sensor on front of intake. the engine is def. cutting out cylinders, as it thinks It is overheating. I cannot find any information on the 2 sensor functions. my guess is one if for gauge (which does not read) and one for the computer to monitor. any ideas.

You are correct - one is for the gauge and the other is for the PCM. Sounds like you need to replace both of them.

first thanks for the help. here is another thing. the parts house keeps selling me the same temp sensor for both holes. is this correct? with that said, the diagnostic meter I have is reading correct engine temp per heat gun.
