Low Engine Oil

Could use some advice. Purchased a new 2018 F-150 XLT (5.0 - 8cyl.) 1.5 weeks ago and drove it for about 500 miles. Started hearing what sounded like loud valve tapping. Thought that there was no way it could be low on oil...but checked it anyway and found it was two quarts low. Called the dealer and they asked me to look for leaks and then add oil to see if it resolves the issue. It didn't resolve the issue and they verified it didn't leak. After taking it in, they tell me it sounds like a lifter problem, but they'll need to tear apart the engine to investigate and fix the issue of my brand new truck. My fear is that low oil may have severely damaged my engine. Sure they can fix it, but what long term damage has been done that they won't find till 36001 miles or 3 years and 1 day? Can someone give me questions that I could ask to ensure that I won't have any residual damage?

After you added 2 quarts, did you still hear the noise? Sounds like the engine has an oil burning problem that may have caused a lifter problem.

2 quarts low in a system that holds almost 8 quarts should not cause damage.

By the way, the powertrain warranty is 5 years/60k. You can also purchase a Ford ESP extended warranty plan at any time before the whole vehicle 3 year/36k warranty expires.

It shouldn't damage it being 2 quarts low.

You can also have an ESP plan up to 15 years or 150k if you keep renewing it like I did. My truck is a '07 and it is under warranty until 2022 w/$50 deductible. I don't know of any other manufacturer that does this.
