Needing some advise and info!!!!

Happy New Year everybody.

Been along time since i have been on here. So needing some advise. i have a 97 ford f150 with a 4.6 in it and have a head gasket going out. The truck has 300.000 plus miles on it. So thinking of trying to find a low mileage motor out of another truck or car or a 5.4. So this brings me to my question my truck has the w in the vin. If i went to the 5.4 route do i need to find a truck with the w in vin and what all needs to be changed to do a 5.4 swap? And if i stay with the 4.6 do i also need to find a car with the w in the vin? Any help is appreciated!

To go with a 5.4 is pretty straight forward you just use your coil packs in place of the coil on plug that the 5.4 has, and you can keep your same computer, the truck may need to be tuned for the 5.4 if you go that route for better performance, but it will still run. Either 4.6 will work as long as you use the complete engine such as the Windsor, code 6, has 13 valve cover bolts and the romeo code w has 11, and things such as that. I'm sure others will chime in with a lot more info.
