My engine oil is due for change, what is the recommended engine oil to use?

 

Motorcraft syn-blend.

 

5W20, and use a Motorcraft filter too.

 

We have 2012 F-150 5.0 - 5W-20 oil recommended; 2016 Mustang 5.0 - 5W-20 oil recommended; 2017 F-150 5.0 - 5W-20 recommended; 2019 F-150 5.0 - 5W-20 recommended.
NOW 2022 F-150 5.0 - 5W-30 oil recommended. Why the change?

 

They changed for 2021 to reduce oil consumption. You can (and probably should) use 5w30 in any Coyote 5.0 with no issues.

 

Oil consumption matters to you. "Cafe" numbers matter to the mfr. Newer (lo mi) engines are tighter and a thinner 5-20 gets everywhere quicker and a minute tad more flow. Tiny tad more HP, maybe.
I am not above using 5-20 and 5-30 (same brand and type) 50-50 or 60-40, etc.

 

Thank you for the replies. I was just quite surprised to see 5W-30 in the Owner's Manual for the 2022 5.0. I had already purchased the 5W-20. I have been (for years) and still am using the Motorcraft Synthetic Blend.
