Engine light on = P0053 and P2196

2005 FXH w/5.4, lots of miles on her but has been good truck. now have the engine light on with these 2 codes. it idles rough now and is sucking down the fuel. I changed the upstream O2 sensor for bank 1 w/ a Motorcraft as well as new Motorcraft spark plugs. still getting the same codes. anyone else have similiar issue with their truck?

Did you change the correct sensor? Bank 1 is passenger side. If so, you probably have a wiring issue to the sensor. Also note that the 2005 5.4 had a bad batch of injectors, yours may be leaking.

yes, changed upstream sensor on rt. side,. passenger side, with motorcraft dy835. however, the plug on that did not match the one on the truck side...had to cut the ears off the new one, which made me wonder???? nothing is simple anymore. that took care of the 0053 code, for a short while, now it is back and the 2196 never left. i read about the injectors on the 05's but have not had problems with them so far, of course i only have 306K miles on the old girl. but she is dumping gas somewhere (6mpg)

what do u think about the different plug ends on the O2 sensor, why would they be different if that is the replacement. got the part number off fordparts.com was the only one listed

thanks and any ideas would be appreciated as i need to get this back on the road for work.

Lift the fuel rail with the injectors and prop it up. Put a piece of paper under the injectors and turn on the key. If they are leaking you will see it.

Check your FPDM for corrosion on the backside.
