Poor fuel mileage

If the sparkplugs are good, air cleaner fresh, etc. in other words, all the maintenance good, then all you can do is let up on the right foot. How you drive is s big factor. Coast to stops with as Lille braking as possible, no fast and ale offs and as little idling as possible.

Is it a standard or extended cab? 2wd or 4wd? Manual or automatic? Axle ratio (what's the AXLE code on the door jamb sticker)? Stock wheels and suspension, or lifted/leveled and/or oversize tires? Any OBD2 codes?
My son in law has a 98 4.6 4wd extended cab automatic 3.55 axle with offroad package and about 190k, he was getting about 12 mpg until he got a rebuilt engine last summer. Stock suspension and 265-70-17 all-terrain tires. Now he gets about 15 on a good day.
