BEWARE, There is no FORD oil, Ask to see the stock, If it comes out of a bulk dispenser,
leave and never buy anything from them again AND REPORT THEM TO FORD. I'd report them anyway for not stocking the recommended fluid.

My Wifes Nissan dealer uses "Snake Oil". I hate them. They also have no other oil than 10W-40W in the shop but require 5W-30W!

My Ford dealer uses 5W-30W like he should. Don't know brand. I think someone produces it and puts the Motorcraft name on it. Ford Motorcraft filters only (also produced for them).

Question

Ummm....as far as I know, all the dealers stock their oil in bulk dispensers. That would be a huge waste to throw away all those quart containers.

Steve,

One of our members just posted this elsewhere on this forum. He works for Citgo in Louisiana who makes Ford Motorcraft oil.

You can assume the GM Mr. Goodwrench and the Mopar oils are also made by one of the "majors."

Steve g,

I posted this on another thread earlier today, but will post it again here!

I found this posted on the NHTSA Site under the TSB Section:

Service Bulletin Number: 99-8-16
Bulletin Sequence Number: 642
Date of Bulletin: 9905
NHTSA Item Number: SB606420
Make: FORD TRUCK
Model: F150
Year: 1999
Component: ENGINE
Summary: FORD MOTOR COMPANY NOW RECOMMENDS SAE 5W-30 VISCOSITY GRADE FOR SERVICING ANY FORD GASOLINE-POWERED VEHICLE REGARDLESS OF MODEL YEAR. *TT

This may be of interest to those who posted their dealerships were using 10W-30 oil during routine maintenance oil changes.

While standing next to the brochure stand at my dealer's the service desk last week, I read the Ford brochure emphasizing the use of only Motorcraft filters AND OIL. This was right before I saw the oil change tech adding Quaker State 10W40 to my truck.

I was at my dealer today, to my surprise I saw pallet full of Mobil 5w-30 sync. Since dealer sells both Ford and Mercedes, I think they recommend Mobil sync.

As I read in another thread I wondeer if you can hold the dealer liable for useing 10-30 instead of 5-30.
Ford is sure quick to blame induviduals who use 10-30 but not dealers?

99% of the time it is about the all mighty dollar. I'm willing to bet the dealer buys the cheapest bulk oil that they can get.

Try this is to see how respectable your dealer is.

1. If you know they use bulk for oil changes, ask what brand/weight they put in the vehicles. Tell them and show them that Ford states to use 5w30 only. Ask to speak to the service manager and tell him to "Put it in writing" that if you have a oil related failure and Ford denies your claim that the dealer agrees to eat the cost of the replacement. I will you lay money that he will freak when you say that. I'll bet you that he WILL not put it in writing. Then go to the parts counter and ask to buy a quart of oil and see what they will try to sell you !!

2. I know for a fact, that some dealers use generic fluids and parts on your vehicle if it is a "Customer Pay", (meaning no warranty claim back to Ford)

Question brand of oil used at dealership???

my dealer that i bought my truck from does not have 5w30 they use 10-30, i will just do it myself,I asked them what kind of oil it was, he said ford oil??? Do dealer ships have to use a certain brand of oil or is it what ever vendor gives them the best price.
May be some one who works at a dealership can tell me.I really don't have a brand that i like better than the next , was just wondering seem'd that he should have know'n what type of oil they use.

Thumbs down

The Ford dealer where I bought my 99 uses Quaker sludge. Both the conventional and synthetic sludge formulas.

Let's See. I will e-mail this entire page to the service manager at my dealership. Then a few days later I will approach him and ask him some "test" questions about what he should have gathered from all this information. I'll bet he will have sticker shock when I tell him that I want some answers. This place changes more oil than any dealer in Tennessee.

Also - Hey PaulT - Good work my friend, Thanks.

Quaker State oil today, is good oil. Any oil sold today is good oil that has to meet tough requirements. Back in the 70's Quaker State oil gummed up countless engines with a waxy sludge. Back then Quaker State was the Piels Real Draft, Milwaukees Best, of motor oils. That is why today, Quaker State is doing big time advertising with big stars to try to get it's share in today's marketplace back. Quaker State pays Hen**** Motorsports big money to use and promote it's oils. I don't know of any quick lube places that use Quaker State, do you?
