Best HP improve for 2001 5.4?

I'm on a budget of $5,000, what's best improvement for a 2001 F150 4X4 with 250K, assume I'm replacing with a rebuild long block with PI heads, what else should I do? Please send me ideas. Thank you

Also have a KN Filter and Headers, will add a programmer ? Type?

Injectors?

To get real power improvements out of the normally aspirated engine, you will need to change out the heads/cams along with everything else that it will need such as throttle body, injectors possibly, intake, custom tune, etc. Your 01 has the PI heads as you know I'm sure.

Thank you Roadie, If I'm buying a remanufactured long block with the PI heads for $2,600, would I be better served buying short block and going with Higher Pro heads and cams, HP throttle body? Anticipate changing cams would change tune and and hours to install?

What's your guess if I use stock heads, KN intake, headers, injectors, programmer.

Could I get close to 375HP my goal is 400hp but seems like might be hard to achieve with my budget?

Using stock heads, the only thing that will give you that kind of hp increase is a supercharger. the hairdryer type may be the least expensive.

A K&N doesn't increase horsepower, it just sounds good and sucks more dirt into the engine. The stock intake is a decent cold air intake.
