Post Synthetic Oils

I have 52k miles on my truck. Is it ok to change to a synthetic oil with this many miles of using reg oil? What are the pros and cons? Or am I just wasting my money?
Thanks
Darren

Thumbs up

Darren Dude,

I had a 94 Ranger with the 3.0L V6. It had 30K miles when I bought it. I started using Mobil 1 at the first oil change after I bought it and used nothing but Mobil 1 till I sold it with 88K miles on it. I saw an increase in gas mileage, and after the second oil change, you could still see through the oil at each 4K mile oil change! It ran like a top, and the clean oil told me it was doing a good job of protecting the engine! It cost a bit more, but that truck would have done 200K easy! I only sold it because I got tired of my wife talking about my "baby truck!" That and I wanted a full size anyway! I say go for it!

Darren,

Is your truck mechanically sound?? Ie. no leaks or oil burning? If not then you can switch over any time.

I would suggest that you do an engine flush with that many miles on it. This will clean all the sludge and varnish, and wax that has built up inside your engine.

I don't know if anyone else make this type of thing.

If you switch you will notice better fuel econmy, less oil consumption, and better cold/hot weather performance.
