Fired up!

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference in coil packs from one manufacturer to another? I have a 2005 FX4 with 5.4 and I have had issues with online coil packs from ebay.

Any input would be appreciated.

Yes, the cheap Ebay cops can be troublesome. I would only recommend Motorcraft or Delphi.

Why would you recommend delphi? I have personally used Denso coils. Rock auto claims Denso is an OEM supplier and my ACTUAL experience has been the Denso coils look exactly like OEM Rock autos price on them is very good. I paid less then $200 for a set of 8. I believe they are a quality product. Based on actual experience.

Anyone use MSD or Accel? I thought about giving those a try.

Huge difference!

if you do a google search then you should be able to see the differences I've seen the pics of them cut in half. Some are made with copper windings and some with aluminum. obviously copper is better. and then there is the seal on them which needs to be good.

If you buy coils from ebay then you should be sure what you are buying. I have gotten them on ebay with good results but I knew the part number I was looking for.

And if you are doing it yourself then make sure you use dielectric grease and be sure that the spring that makes the contact is actually going to make contact on each end, sometimes they are pushed way in.

Good luck,
Dave

Stay away. Not worth the money, you can get Motorcrafts for what those go for.

Where? The best price I found on Motorcrafts was $40 apiece on Amazon, but the Accels are $249 for the set of 8 (http://amzn.to/1Wqo2BE). Tasca Parts is almost $60 for the Motorcrafts with the boot.

I don't like buying things more than once, but if the Accels are of at least equal quality I'd gladly enjoy the extra beer money, that's why I was curious if anyone used them.

Apologies to the OP for the thread hijack but I thought I'd jump in on a related topic as opposed to starting a new thread.

Accels have a bad reputation - no better than the cheap Ebay coils.

The Ebay seller (Herco) that has Delphis (linked thread) for $125 is out of stock.

Look for Motorcraft, Delphi, Visteon, or Denso. Those are all OEM quality.
