Exclamation romeo/ winsor??

The company that i work for hauls all the 4.6 5.4 out of romeo engine plant, we have at a any given time 4 or 5 53ft trailer's full of complete engines in the yard here , we just got back to full production because they where having problems with the cranks breaking in the 5.4 , the cranks where built in Canada, they fixed the problem, but they shipped thousands of these engines before they found the problem,!!!! I have a 2000 5.4 no problems yet my truck was built in the norfolk plant, im not sure on the engine, just a note to any bodoy who is intrested.

I thought all 5.4s were made in windsor and most 4.6s.

Yep, All 5.4's and V10's are built in windsor. Some 4.6's are in Romeo, and some are in Windsor. Check your vin number. The 8th number is a W if its a Romeo and a 6 if its a Windsor.

Yeah, me too. My 8th position character is an "L". Does anybody know what the rest of our VIN's mean? I know that most of it describes manufacturer and specific model info but I'd like to see a 'translation'. Thanks!

I would not say all because we haul them out of romeo every day 4- 6 loads a day , maybe some are built in winsor but not all.

Engine code is the 8th digit of the VIN. I think the government mandates the position, but I'm not sure. I know they do on boats. Anyway, here is the info from the guys at Ford:

L= 5.4L (all are built in Windsor)
6= 4.6L (built in Windsor)
W= 4.6L (built in Romeo)
