Angry It just dont seem right !

Got my new motor today after being diagosed with the slap. I was just a happy camper until I got home and looked at the work invoice which stated REMANUFACTURED ENGINE -REPLACE !! HUH ?? I bought this truck in June of this year ! I called the service manager who stated "Ford does not give out any new (2000) replacement motors, they are all reman's..."

I don't know this just does not seem right. It seems to me I should be getting a brand spankin new motor. These people are pushing my limits (again)

Dondo 7,
Man are you right, I simply can't believe these people (Ford) are trying that crap. It seems that as much as you pay for a new vehicle that they wouldn't hesitate to replace a FAILED engine with a new one. I would make some calls and a least put up some resistance. If they're putting in a reman. eng. it had to have failed in order to need remanufaturing, and then what if that engine has a deficiency that they didn't bother to find and they just changed out the failed parts, but didn't find the actual reasons or cause for the failure in order to correct it. I agree That's Absurd!!!

As the dealer basically told me to go F-off, I sent an E-mail to Ford via the ownerconnection website. Interested to see what they say, but it will probably be the same response I always get.."Dear Dondo7, Ford Motor Co strives to achieve the highest quality of customer satisfaction, however this situation is probably best dealt with through your local dealer..."

Crow-
I'm hoping my situation is the same as yours and the dealer just has their head up their A**

Dondo7, its quite possible Ford sent your dealer the wrong engine like they did to my dealer. Ford registers the serial number on the NEW engine with your trucks VIN number. If it is the wrong engine, Ford should be able to tell. My dealer said the number on the engine they received did not match the number on the invoice. The dealer called Ford and Ford immediately saw the mistake. Ford will also not pay the dealer if the wrong engine is installed under this plan, according to my dealer. Good luck and I hope your wonderful dealer makes it right.

Dondo7, My truck was bought on 01/14/99. On 12/07/99 dealer ordered new engine due to piston slap. New engine came in on 12/14/99 with a build date of 12/04/99 on the left valve cover. It was a complete engine with the a new black plastic intake even had a flywheel on the back and oil in the engine. I raised the hood on my wifes new 2000 Expedition and it also has the black plastic intake on it. I dropped the truck off today to do the swap and I took some pictures on the engine while it was still sitting on the crate. If you would like to see those pictures email me at the link below and I will send them to you. Maybe if you show your dealer this post and pictures they might be more willing to do something about their mistake. If I had bought that truck in June I would settle for nothing less than a new engine. Good Luck!!!! dbader@bayou.com

Dondo7...

I agree with you and everyone else...you should have been given a brand new engine. I can't believe that you JUST bought your truck 6/99 and they pulled this kind of crap.

KEEP ON THEM until they give you a new engine!

GOOD LUCK!!

Question

Dondo7,
How many miles does your truck have on it? I bought mine in August and it has slap. I wonder if they are putting mileage limits on new engines? Mine has 11k and I'm going to the dealer next week. I paid $35k for this truck less than 4 months ago and it WON'T have a rebuilt engine put in it! Keep us posted on your progess with this so I can be sure that my dealer doesn't pull this crap with me!

Hey DONDO7,

I don't think you got the true deal!
Read the news group piston slap in engines and you will find that many are getting the new 2000 5.4 and only the 97 98 folks are being issued the FQR 5.4 engines.
I think that call to the service manager was necessary to file your concern them. Contact Ford factory service rep again and voice your concern with them. They will check with the dealer on your complaint and attempt to resolve it.
The message boards with help you justify a new rather than FQR since other owners have been given the new ones. That post about the VIN # being assigned to the replacement engine sounds pretty specific. Check your rebuilt engine, I think they installed the wrong one or they had that motor laying around a put the 2000 one aside for a special person etc. There are many tricks played at the dealers and all work should be checked up on to be sure they dont prey on your warranty issue to get a part out of Ford for someone else. Good Luck

dirlton,

Sticker price $34,934 Loaded Lariat. Only option I don't have is tu-tone paint. The point that I was trying to make is that this is a brand new $35k truck and it doesn't deserve a rebuilt engine. There was an XLT F-250 superduty 4x4 with the PSD right next to this one on the lot that stickered for about $33,500 but I fell in love with my F-150 and don't need that much truck. Plus, diesel stations are few and far between in my area.

Ford still refusing to give me a 2000 engine as they are saying "only one new engine per vehicle (the original). End of story. I did not get anywhere with the ownerconnection people though that was no surprise as I never do.

The date stamped on the current FQR engine they gave me is 7-2-99. Did they even have a fix for the piston slap at this date ??
