Cool

Back then the 302 was rated at 185 hp and 285 ft/lbs. The 351 was rated at 200/210 hp and 300 ft/lbs. The big 'ol 460 had only 230 hp. I'm pretty sure these are accurate, but I've been wrong before.

Thumbs up

les1,
The regular 2000 5.4L has 260-265 h.p. at 4500 rpm. (260 in ads..265 told to me by two dealerships) Also, 345 lb-ft of torque at only 2300 rpm!

I have a K&N air filter so add another 5-7 h.p. ..or so I have been told.

The best 0-60 time for my 2000 5.4L Supercab has been 7.8 seconds with 87 Octane fuel..only mod has been a K&N air filter). I average 7.9 on 87 Octane fuel. Plenty of hauling power/passing power to say the least.

Actually the 90 and 89 engines hp and torque were the same. the windsor took out

210hp@3800rpm
315lbs-ft.@2800 Rpm

the 460 got
230hp@3600rpm
390lbs-ft@2200rpm

302---
185hp@3800
270@2400rpm

well thanx guys for the info but what makes the 302 and 351 so much weaker? A stock mustang 302 is 225hp and 300lbs torque bone stock, and so much easier to get more, what is wrong with the windsor those arent very impressive #'s is the cam weak? the heads are same as mustang e7ts on 302 so what gives? do the newer motors have more compression? in 69 the 351w had 290hp this is frustrating!

I think the main reason that the 351 only has 210 hp is that it uses a speed density system, while the 302, and the new triton engines use a mass air system.
I think you can get a mass air system for your truck in the ford motorsport cataloge. The 93 -95 lightnings were the only 351 to have a roller cam, but that was also a speed density system, rated at 240 hp. That was a very strong 240 hp, with gt40 heads, and a tuned intake.

Well mass air alone doesn't give you more power, it merely makes flow modifications like cam/heads/intake easier for your computer to handle. In fact, the mustangs that came with mass air (89 and later) dynoed with a few LESS horsepower than the speed density mustangs, at least stock. Once the modifications begin, the speed density system loses its appeal.

The limited power rating more likely has to do with the design. It's designed to be a torquey truck motor... it has long intake runners for increased air speed, and hence increased torque. It's also not designed to rev, and revs are what create horsepower. Horsepower is a function of RPM (among other things), so keeping the revs down limits horsepower.

The 210hp rating does NOT make it a bad motor however... I highly recommend the 351 for its beefy construction and power potential.
