It could only happen to me!!!
Ok, boys and girls....here's what happened. I just came in from the garage and putting some dry gas in the tank. That blasted piece of foil that they use to seal the bottle of dry gas(you know, you poke it with a screwdriver) came off in my gas tank. At least, I'm pretty sure that's where it went. What now??? Can that cause a problem??Can I get it out?? Is there a filter in the gas neck?
Man, I hate when that happens!!

When they replaced my fuel level sender unit there was a screen on the fuel pick up. It had the look of a woman's nylons but was stiffer, plastic stuff. By the dirt on it I do not think you have to worry about it getting sucked up.
I would play it by ear, yes there is a filter sock on the bottom of the pump. No I don't think that the piece of foil will hurt anything. Its a good size filter

You could take the rubber hoses off and probably find that piece of foil in the intake to the tank. But, if it aint broke don't fix it. If you don't develop a problem forget it is there.

Don't feel bad I did it myself on my 95 Sable. I no longer own it but it never had a problem and it is still running strong for the new owner. I would guess it has over 80K or more since this happened. I was waiting for a 12 step group to start forming so I could come out of the closet.

Isn't there a hard metal screen in the down-pipe that keeps people from sticking a hose in there and siphoning gas from your tank?

I went to my dealer today(actually for a scheduled oil change) and they said it wouldn't cause a problem...there is a filter in the fuel tank, but they said there was nothing in the filler neck to prevent it from going into the tank. I really am not confident that they knew what they were talking about. I thought there was a hard screen in the filler neck to prevent gas siphoning also.
Andthensometoo, don't you know?...REAL MEN can admit their mistakes!! LOL Actually, I was glad I wasn't the only dummy to make this same goof. I have poked that foil with a screwdriver a zillion times before without it ever coming off!! Never again...patience , patience!!
Thanks for your help, everyone!
