5.4 3V Engines

I am looking for a good used F150 with a 5.4 . I have heard from several of my friends that the earlier year models had some sort of issue with the engine. I was also told that 2008 and newer models did not have the issues. I do not need any problems, and there is no assurance that I won't anyway. I just appreciate any help I can get. Any comments?

Honestly? I'd look at anything except a 4.6 or 5.4 3 valve. See if you can find a 2011 with a 5.0 that you can afford. If it has enough power, a 4.6 2 valve is a solid engine.

The 2008 was at the extent of my price range. Thanks anyway.

Even most of the 2008's have the 2 piece spark plugs and they ALL have the VCT system. So, ANY 5.4 3 valve is a crapshoot. Lots of people have no problems. However, quite a few do. If you are looking at them, make sure you drive it long enough to get it fully warmed up, and if you hear ANY ticking other than fuel injectors pulsing, walk away.

Just get a 2008 with the 2v 4.6. Great engine that'll be trouble free and will last you a long time.
