06 f150 5.4 stalled in gear won't start

My father was just driving along and it was almost like it went into neutral. Will not move. Then when he was getting pff the road it quit and wont start at all. Just makes a zing nosie when he was trying to move and start it. The only thing he can come up with is maybe the crank snaped off? Not sure what else it could be.

zing noise sound like a bad starter (Bendex drive broken) Dead battery??? Cause the truck to go dead?? Not enough info to help you.

It sounds like the starter but, for it to not move. I mean it just didnt stall out, was running when he was coasting down a hill to get off the road that is when it quit.

My Pinto did exactly this when the timing belt broke (quit running, starter spun freely, wouldn't start), but your Dad's truck has a chain. I would think a broken timing chain would behave a bit differently, but never having experienced that problem, I don't know.
