NO MESS Oil Change

I found a way to greatly reduce the mess when changing the oil. My oil filter is located on the engine block and it is mounted horizontally. I placed heavy duty aluminum foil over the plastic drip tray. When I was done I simply removed the foil and the tray was clean.

Good tip and I can tell how you like to keep your truck clean just by looking at the pic in your sig.

Buckdropper, you got that right. An oil, lube & filter costs me $24.99 at the dealer. I can't even do it for that let alone stay clean.

You can't change your own oil for less than 25 bucks? I can do it for about 8. More money for mods.

Those were $25 Canadian dollars which is comparable to the 15 Jiffy Boob charges.

Thumbs up

Good tip, JMC. I used your "no mess" method this weekend on my truck's first oil change. The foil kept most of the oil off the truck and the floor. I was expecting the original filter to be very difficult to remove... and it was. Although my filter socket fit a new filter base perfectly, it spun around when applied to the one I was trying to remove. What I did then was wrap the base with masking tape to shim up the space between the filter base and tool. It took three wraps of tape before the tool was tight enough to turn the filter. The next change should be much easier.

Thumbs up Jiffy Boob?,,hahahahahahahaha!!!!

I guess I'll try that technique if I ever have a chance to be home when the oil needs changed I've had my truck for two years, and I've never changed my own oil. I feel terrible, but it's been awhile since I've had the time Thanks for the tip,JMC!,,,,,98

Good Tip, JMC.

I have done almost all of the oil changes in my 98, and every time I change the oil, I am reminded of one more reason to keep my 98 - the remote mounted oil filter. After having it, I don't think I could do without. When I buy a new F-150 (maybe 2003 with diesel), if it doesn't have the remote mount, I'll definitely be adding it.

Real Good Idea ....

I use AMSOIL so I have to change my own oil. I have a loading dock where I can get under my truck. AMSOIL specifies every 25,000 miles for an oil change on their synthetic. But, Im going to change it every 5 to 6,000 miles. There is condensation and some dillution of the oil from gas that I would like to eliminate. Besides, six quarts and a new filter only cost about $26.

Thanks for the tip.
