Oh oh! Yeah it's me.
I buy ONLY Ford and GM vehicles. (Had real bad 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee experience once) I have owned 8 GMs so far. I currently own a 98 WS6 TransAm CV and a 97 Saturn. I frequent the SLP and F-body sites and have fun keeping up with the members there. There is almost never any Ford bashing on these sites although there are some members who own Fords who comment from time to time when someone oversteps the bounds of common courtesy. They are a great bunch of guys. Both my GMs are excellent vehicles and one is VERY fast amd very good looking. (Arctic white with white top and white leather).
On the other hand, I own a 99 Navigator, a 97 Expy EB, a 99 Cougar, a 94 Lincoln Mark VIII and I am in the process of purchasing a 69 Boss 429, so you can see I have definite leanings. I gave my 97 Stang to my mom last year and my garage has been haunting me ever since.
I am a Ford man at heart and fiercely loyal to the product. That doesn't mean I disike GMs, as you can see I drive them. It just means that I don't suffer Ford bashers well. So if you ever want to get me started...just tell me what you think F O R D stands for ...and it isn't First On Race Day! or something equally flattering... I'll be on your case. The point I am trying to make here is...just like Dunbarton, (normally) I don't take all this Ford/Chevy stuff seriously either...

OK, since this is true confessions I also have another truck. It's a 1983 VW Rabbit LX Pickup. I've done some serious mods to make it competitive. There aren't any great sites sites like Rabbitonline for me so I've pretty much been on my own. The one mod that I did years ago which I see now is really catching on is the coffee can sized exhaust.
I used a real coffee can.
It still runs great. I change the oil and coffee filter every 3000 miles.

I own a 96 GMC Yukon in addition to my Fords. I bought it instead of an Explorer in '96 mainly because I preferred the Vortec 350 V8 to the 5.0 in the Explorer. Not that the 5.0 isn't a good engine (I got one in my F150), I just liked the power of the 350 and the gas milage was actually 1 MPG higher. I have had a few problems with my Yukon (mainly the rear end)but I haven't spent my own money to fix anything (GM paid).
It does appear that more of the pro Chevy truck folks are rather militant and down right rude when disagreed with.

Heard at a Dodge meet last month with a good friend of mine who is a Dodge owner.
"those new Triton V8's are a real problem ... Ford is having to replace them because they knock." ... "Ford has been over 3 years trying to fix that engine knock in the V8's".
"Don't slam the door because it breaks, no not the window the damm door breaks, really Ford Tough isn't it." ...
"the V6 is the same engine that they discontinued in the T-Birds because of all of the head gasket problems"
I jumped on this one because it was not completely true.
When they found out I was a Ford owner I took a lot of good natured kidding about driving a Ford but it was all in good fun.

Lee, do you know how these Dodge owners come to possess all of this proprietary information?
I hate to say it but, I think there is a spy amongst us.

Mlaugh,
If Yugo made a pickup truck and someone bought one I would seriously question their sexual preferences.
dc21661,
Yes, you can take your F150 to a gay bar if you want but please remove your "I'm Dunbarton" bumper sticker......
I sent Raoul a magnetic "I'm Dunbarton" bumper sticker since I kindly asked him to do the same when he crossdresses while driving his VW Rabbit pickup. I was running out of stickers for him............

Well I have to say my 302 F150 in its younger days got about 1MPG better than the Yukon. But its lighter. What kills the Explorer is the 5.0 comes with a 3.73 rear end. But you are right, you would think the 5.0 would do a little better.

Chevy vs. Ford is all in good fun, imho. As long as it's from an American company, I'll drive it.
Someone asked why Chevy still uses pushrods. I'm not really sure why they do, but it may not be a bad decision. Chevy seems to be the masters of the pushrod engine... look at the LT-1/LS-1. Wow. Pushrod engines have also been pretty good for trucks because they usually don't require high revs to make power, although I'm not sure what's with the high RPM peaks on the new Chevy motors.
This brings me to a funny story however. When I was in the market for trucks a couple months ago (I recently ordered a 2000 F-150 Lariat) I figured that I would just stop in the Chevy dealership just so that I could honestly say that I shopped around
Anyway, I walked up to a 1500 Silverado, and a salesman was on me in an instant. I told him I was shopping for trucks and he asked me what kind of payments I was looking for. I told him and he said it would be no problem with his typical salesman mumbo jumbo. Then we had the following conversation:
me: I haven't really paid much attention to Chevy lately, and I was kind of wondering about these new motors... are they OHC now, or do they still use pushrods?
salesman: Well, I don't really know... they call it a Vortec!
(at this point it was all I could do to keep from laughing, did he honestly just say that to me?)
me: Well, yeah, but that's just the engine manufacturer... I'm wondering if it's pushrod still...
salesman: I'm not really sure about that, but it's the most powerful truck engine.
me: Well every company claims to have the most powerful truck engine... Ford, Dodge, hell, even Toyota.
salesman: It has more horespower than any of those.
me: Well, that's fine, but being that it's a truck, I'm more concerned about torque. How much torque does it make?
salesman: Well, I don't really know, but the commercial says that it's the most powerful engine.
Did he just tell me what their COMMERCIALS said?! And this man was trying to sell me a $30,000 vehicle, when it was quite obvious that he wouldn't know a pushrod if someone shoved one up his a$$. Wow, what a pathetic display.
Got a good chuckle out of it though

Psycho,
You should be allowed to express your opinion freely. If you act up you risk being booted off the list. I don't think any list will tolerate unappropriate behavoir. I figure that if I can learn something from someone then I leave a winner. I looked at the big three before leasing my 97 and 2000 F-150s. What convinced me to go Ford was $$$ pure and simple. Yes Dodge and GM (even Toyota) make fine vehicles but I didn't wish to pay more.

I have always been a chevy kind of guy.I now own a 98F-150 for two reasons,First the price,Chevys are way over priced,Second the Fords handle better.I agree that the Chevys have more power from factory, and the performance parts are cheaper, however the fords have hella torque.I test drove the dodges and wasnt satisfied,The truck was way to heavy, and the 318 was anemic for that heavy of a truck the 302 in my Ford had more power and its got 16 less cubes, and the dodge had no handleing characteristics what so ever.
This is my first post on this board and even though I don't own a ford I have learned quite alot about them. I let my ford owning friends know some of the things I've learned here. When I first was looking to buy a new truck last year I was seriously looking at the ford trucks even though I've mostly owned GM over the years. The main thing that held me back is that I don't like to buy a new model of any make in the first few years they are out because there are usually alot of teething problems to iron out and at the time the look of the new fords had not grown on me yet. I think this is a great site, better than any of the chevy forums I've been to. Hope I don't get flamed too bad for being a non ford owner.
