The engine in my 03 4.6 windsor has finally give up on me. So im looking for thought and opinions on a rebuild. Its my dd and i occasionally pull up to 7k lbs. with it (tractor). By occasionally, maybe 3-4 times a year.

So since i have to do a rebuild, im thinking about trying to add a little more power to make the ride a little funner. I have about a 5k budget for the whole project.

Im sure quite a few of you have been through this before. From what i can come up with, my options are

1. Used engine from a junkyard and call it a day
2. Purchase Long block and upgrade some parts on the engine (headers, cams, intake?)
3. Purchase Short block w/ upgraded internals, reuse current engine top end, and keep saving for a supercharger.

I had thought to purchase a 5.4 lightning setup, but from what ive read, its s bit more of a challenge to go from a 4.6 to 5.4 - plus keeping my 4x4.

Any input or direction is greatly appreciated !
