Post Electric water pumps!

Seeing how everyone is aware of power robbing belt driven accessories to the point of swictching to electric fans and underdrive pullies then how come no one is running an electrically driven water pump?

I've read about the Cobra R water pump conversion and while it's an improvement over stock, it's still belt driven. I saw them in the summit catalog. Are they only for racing applications??

I would think it would only be a race deal. I wouldn't want to rely on an electric moter to run the water pump for everyday driving. Besides, you're gonna need the belt anyway, for the alt and power steering. It'll just get in the way and not really gain you that much in a 5klbs truck.

The power to run an electrically driven water pump has to come from someplace and that place is the alternator which, btw, is run by the fanbelt.
