K&N Generation II Performance Kit
Anyone seen this? Opinions?

I was thinking about getting JBA Headers for my '97 F-150 4WD (already have a Borla exhaust). Should I get this instead/also?
TIA...
Joe

My opinion is that I won't be supporting K&N at all until they offer one for the 4.2L V-6.
Has been a problem all along, and I won't even buy a filtercharger unit until they offer a FIPK or Generation II for the 4.2...
Their marketing guys are a bit off in thinking that we V-6 owners won't buy their products and therefore don't warrant an offering...

I have one, I like it. Many, many, many late model f-series owners have put them on also. There are other companies who make similar ones also, "Airaid" for example you can buy in the online store on this site (I think). There a company "Western Motorsports" who makes just the tube part, There's a thread in "Other Aftermaket" about those. I want to have both myself. They really open up the air flow. They are also cheaper than headers.

Thanks for the reply! Was there a noticable difference after you installed the K&N?
I got this reply from a rep at www.performanceproducts.com regarding using this kit and headers:
The K&N Performance kits or Generation II do not affect the exhaust manifolds in any way and can be used with headers and several other engine modifications. The performance kit replaces your entire air box assembly.
So, it sounds like a combination of headers and the Generation II kit would make for quite a bit more airflow. I've been thinking about getting JBA Headers for nearly a year now.
TIA for your reply.....

Yeah, there was a noticable difference. There is much better throttle responce, when you hit the gas it gives a nice throatie sound. Im not sure about gas milage yet.
I like it. I tried the famous air box mod first, didnt like so I put the kit on and like it much better. Also www.wmsracing.com/ has a kit that comes w/out the K&N airfilter, since you already have one, thats cheaper (I think its like $90)and does pretty much the same thing. You might want to check those out also. Let me know if you get those headers, I want to get them sometime myself.
