Keep it simple and use the double coil pack system that is on your truck this way all the wiring and the ECM will work as well. The injectors are the same and yes leave the intake off until the engine is in the truck and and off for removal of the engine as well. Remove the truck hood. Get a new EGR tube that connects to your exhaust manifold the old one will most likely be junk after you try to remove it. The PI engine will have higher compression so plan on getting a tune. I know some guys that never have had a problem with detonation but if you tow or haul it can detonate and ruin the engine with out the tune.

Regarding the throttle body you should be able to remove the throttle body and adapter from the old intake and it should bolt right on the replacement PI truck intake, use a new gasket. This way all the throttle connections will match right up. If you need another throttle body I have a couple laying around even a new one or two. The non PI intake has two temperature sensors and ports/boss one for the dash gauge and one for the ECM. The PI intake will only have one. You will need two, I have a picture on this site that jbrew posted for me of a "T" fitting I made and installed in the heater hose to accommodate the temp sensor for the dash gauge and it works great. Some guys drill and tap a hole in the intake coolant passage but I don't like doing that as the aluminum is real thin in that area. Some use JB weld as well I just don't trust it myself. If it blows out you can toast your engine.

Also if I find a truck intake what gasket do I need to buy? The cv one or one for whatever model truck I find an intake from? Or are there any differences?

Remember the CV is a PI engine..correct? If it is a PI engine then you have to get a PI truck intake manifold to match the PI cyl heads on the CV. Therefore you will have to purchase PI intake manifold gaskets. Intake gaskets are either non PI or PI that's the only two choices I know of and they are not interchangeable.

If you are referring to the throttle body adapter gasket I mentioned above then there is only one gasket and it is not specific to either PI or non PI..same gasket for both intakes.

Ok you will need two intake gaskets one for each side they are the same gasket but one faces one way on the right side head the other faces the opposite way on the left head end to end.
Just take your time with this project and think everything out it will work out fine. good luck.

DYNOTECH, I really appreciate all the info you've given me. What year range intake do I need? 2000 up to what year? How much would you take for a used one?
