Rattling Noise on Cold Start
I have a 1999 Ford F-150 with a 4.6L Triton V8. When cranking my truck on a cold start the motor revs to 2k rpms and makes a rattling noise which sounds like the crankshaft is starving for oil. The dealership tells me that this noise is normal. I do not believe that this problem is good for my engine. If you have any information regarding my problem please reply and let me know. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone regarding this problem.
If you're running the right oil and the right filter as spec'd in your owner's manual, the noise is not normal unless you haven't started your engine for a few days and/or you have a ton of miles on your engine. If you start it daily, you should not hear any rattling noises from inside the engine.
Mattro2k3,
Is your vehicle parked outside...i.e. suceptible to moisture. I had a similar problem with moisture collecting in the belt housings and causing a "rattling" noise for approx 30 seconds until the moisture was released. The remainder of the starts in a day are "noise" free.... My .02....I don't have the problem when isolated from dew, rain etc.. Anything similar???
