RECALL: Wiper motor

FYI,
I just recieved a letter that states I need to take my truck in to be inspected to see if it is effected by this recall. The recall is on the wiper motor on some 2000 and 2001 ford models and that the motor may malfunction in a certain mode. It is safety recall 01S24.

Re: RECALL: Wiper motor

So did I. What infuriates me is that there isn't more info available like what the build date code is for the wiper motor. If it's only motors from June to December, then everybody who has a truck built before June is okay.

Ford Customer Service was basically a nearly non-English speaking idiot, and the OwnerConnection used to have a recall info option, but that apparently isn't there anymore. I wish there was some other recourse available other than taking my vehicle down to the dealer for them to screw with for an entire day.

I love my truck, but I'm pissed at Ford right now. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood.

Talking Idiots!!

Ford is composed by thousands of employees, most of which probably never made it out of elementary school. What's worse is that it is run by a bunch of executives who are so stupid they probably had to repeat kindergarden several times. I know I'm in a bad mood!

I just got that recall letter too... For my 2000 truck that Ford BOUGHT BACK in April! I tell you, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, but I think we all know what the right hand is doing...

Talking

When the firestone thing first started heating up, I got a letter from ford that said my tires weren't included in the recall since they were bfg's. i looked at my tires as i read that and noticed that they were actually goodyears.

Y2K OffRoad...

Funny you mentioned that you received a letter for your truck they bought back. I received a letter (customer survey) from FORD about my 1998 F-150...which I traded in on my first 2000 F-150...about 1.5 years after the fact.

It really makes a person wonder what the heck is going on in FORD-land.

CHEVY IS WORST

This year I received a coupon for $150 or $2000 off a Chevy purchase for a 1975 Chevy truck that I sold in 1989.

Unhappy Back to the wiper motor!

I really HATE bringing my Harley truck into the dealer. They goob it all up, leave the windows down so dirt blows in, and make for an hour or more cleanup job when it gets home. And, that is presuming that the job it was in there for was done correctly in the first place!

Anyhow, I was attempting to find out more info on this wiper motor recall so I could inspect the motor myself and came across this tidbit on BON as to how to get at the motor and the dates affected:

First remove wiper arms , remove cowel vent cover on drivers side, can't remember how motor is mounted on the truck , wiper module may have to be removed which requires hinge to be moved, there may be a sticker on the motor which has to be lifted up to reveal the birthday of the motor, affected build date 02-10-00 / 06-26-00.

I removed the driver's side wiper, and pulled up the cowling and could clearly see the motor underneath, but I didn't see a sticker on mine, so I put it back together. To really get at the motor, I think one needs to remove both wipers and both sides of the cowling. (It took more effort than I had expected to get at it, btw.)

Guess it's going to have to go in.

Unhappy

Thanks for posting the affected dates...

I went out and pulled my driver's side wiper arm and cover...the build date for my motor was clearly etched into the metal body (no sticker). Mine is recalled..build date of 06/19/00. Missed the cutoff date by only 7 days...

I'm schedule to get mine replaced this Friday. The service advisor I spoke too didn't seem to mentally register what I was telling him I was coming in for. Hope they don't end up swapping out the wrong "motor"....Of course that supercharged Harley deal would be a nice mistake...
