Low Oil Pressure reading

2004 F150 4X4 Lariat
5.4 V8
Changed oil on 1/23/2014
Standard Motorcraft oil filter

Need help diagnosing what's happening here.

In idle engine runs fine with no noises coming from under the hood. As the motor is shifted from park into drive (load applied) rpm drop and stall motor. I immediately have oil pressure bottom out and I get a low oil pressure reading from the cpu.

This problem comes and goes and I cannot figure it out. I have a slight leak (.5 quart every 2 weeks)

I was thinking oil pressure sending unit? What do you guys say?

hi & welcome.

Well - if you think aboot it - you will indeed have ZERO oil pressure with the engine not running. It an effect - not a cause.

The oil pressure gauge is an idiot gauge - - you need to hook up a mechanical or quality electric oil pressure gauge ( with matching sender if electrical) to determine if you have a pressure issue while engine is operating.

Stalling could be many things - usually dirty TB or MAF. Do you have a Check Engine Light ( CEL). If so get the codes pulled and post them.

What other maintenace items are outstanding? Plugs, front O2's, fuel filter, etc?

Also - find the leak and fix it - that's a lot to lose.
