Question 2000 f150 cylinder head question

i have been looking on ebay for a cylinder head for my 2000 7700 series with the 5.4. when i look through the compatibility part i see "Right for a 2000 FORD F150 8-330 (5.4L), gasoline (unleaded), except Lightning, except 7700 gross vehicle weight; right" I realize the 7700 is basically a f250 but isn't a 5.4 a 5.4?

there is a critical differense in that the heads should be PI or performance inhanced Prior 99 all F-150'd had non PI heads after 99 they are PI. You should have pi heads so you want PI heeads to replace them. And it is a major deal. Cant use a pi intake with non pi heads. Why not just get the ones on it rebuilt. I bet I could get a set of heads redone for $250

Ok thanks I did not know that. The one i am replacing a friend screwed up trying to drill out a broken manifold stud. if it wasn't for that it would be fine.

It is likely a machine shop could repair that damage. Thats what I'd do first. Take the damaged head off and see if there isnt some machine shop voodo they can do to fix it.

I agree with Jethat, a machine shop can probably fix it right up.

As for a 5.4 being a 5.4, as far as I can tell the 7700 thing doesn't come in to it at all. Ford has superceded that head 2 or 3 times up to a 2009 part number and before anyone says that Ford didn't use a 5.4 2v in a 2009 F-series you are correct but they did still use a 2v in the Econolines

What's your budget for a cylinder head?

At the moment I only have about $100, that's why i was looking for a used one. I could go to the pick n pull near me to get one for $56 when it warms up. I'm fixing it up here and there a little at a time, due to a friend hitting a pole on me.

Right, - not sure why that's even in there, - but it's not the first time something like that was in a the description lol.

I can't recall what model years the Van's and F250/350's had the updated heads that ALL F150's had from 99+. 2000 or perhaps 01 for the 3/4 tons, Vans, I can't be sure. You might be able to find that info..

OP - Yea, just make sure it's a PI head. That's what you need for that engine. PI's are stamped on the castings and have square ports. Non PI heads have round ports. That's the giveaway upon visual inspection.

thanks guys. jethat with the damage the only thing they would probably be able to do is make a bigger hole and thread it for a bolt, which I may do for now.

There's lots of ways to fix it beyond hogging it out for a bigger bolt, check out this link http://www.timesert.com/html/mtrcsert.html

And that's just one of many brands and styles of inserts.

Very good suggestion! No one has mentioned early 2 valve heads & 03 & up 3 valve heads. 97-02 had 2v. JMO

Not exactly - with the 5.4 2V, 97 and 98 are non-PI and 99 to end of production are PI. The first 3V heads were in the 04 NBS F-150, other vehicles switched over at different times. The E-vans never switched.

Ouch, no good. I hope you get it taken care of with a minimum of property damage.

Water damage sucks.
