my 1998 f150 will not start someone please help

OK so I have a 98f150 4.6l 2wd and when I went to go start it one morning I just get this clicking noise so I figured might be starte,or solenoid or batt cables so I replaced them and still get nothing but a click and when I turn key some dash lights go out and radio and interior lite dims off when turn to start position I've tried jumping solenoid and it does nothing and I've connected a jumper to starter and when it makes loud whiny noise like not engaging or something please if anyone has any answers I'm all ears as I can't afford to call mechanic

Have your battery load tested. It sounds like it isn't up to full power.

Your meter may very well tell you that it is 12 volts just sitting there, it's when you put a load on it that counts. Take a reading, then try to stars it a couple of times and then check the voltage again. My guess is it will be a bit lower the second time.

You can have it tested at many auto parts stores, just make sure you load test it.

Have you tried jumping it with another vehicle?

Are both posts on the battery shiny clean and the cables clamp good and tight? What about the ground connections leading off the negative battery terminal, shiny clean and tight?

There's always a chance the battery is bad no matter how it tests. It sounds like you may have gotten a bad replacement starter, but it should still spin by hitting the starter switch, so that isn't your entire problem.

Is there any fuses or fuse relays under hood that could effect that I'm not to machanicy but I'm going to take starter out and test it again and see if bendex slides if anybody has any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated and I've shines up all contacts for electrical as well as put new wiring in for bat ands starter and such but I will decently go threw it again cause I am so stumped on this truck

There is a relay on the firewall not far from the battery, a lot of times this is called a solenoid. Maybe you also replaced this also, calling it a solenoid. I will call it a relay so were on the same page.

When you turn the key to start the relay gets a signal through that small wire on the top of the relay. that sends a signal to connect to the smaller double connection wire on the relay to send a signal down to the small terminal on the starter solenoid located on top of the starter. That sets the starter in motion.

That's the way it's supposed to work. If you could trace the path and see where it's failing. With a test light or multi meter.

Pull the battery, take it to the parts store, get it charged and load tested.

Easier to just jump the relay. That will narrow the problem down in the circuit to before or after the relay.

Turn the key to run and jam a big screwdriver in between the relay posts.

What happens? Did it start?
