5.4 3v cams

I have a 2006 Roush f150 and would like to add cams soon. I already have Roush rear exit catbacks, obx long tube headers, and cat delete. I have installed both ***** thumprs and hot rods in a mustang and love the sound. I would like the hot rods because I think the comps are to high in the power band and I'm planning on going supercharged. Any cam recommendations?

How much power do you guys running hot rods, catbacks, long tubes (without cats), cold air intake, and custom tunes (93 octane)? Or any estimate ?

Videos on page 4!!!!!

I've got the exact same exhaust set up as you, and though I won't realistically be in the market for cams for quite some time, I've been thinking about it and how it would sound a lot more since I did the headers. I love how Mustangs sound with cams, but F150s never sound the same and I've never heard a cam'd 150

I've thought about the comp xfi nsr cams but i haven't heard them in person. And I haven't heard an f150 either.

Don't you love the headers with the Roush catbacks

I do love them! I want to take the OBX resonators out though to make it louder haha.

I absolutely love cams and think that they complete the total sound package. It's probably a good thing that I haven't heard them on a 150, cause then I'd have to get them. A big reason why I got my long tubes is because a buddy put them on his 05 Mustang GT and I couldn't help myself!

Haha I have been wanting to take the resonators off too.lol. I also would like to take the resonators out of the Roush exhaust tips.

The reason I got headers is because I had a cat clog up.

I really want cams for the sound and I want more power.

Then I will supercharge it for the rest ofthe power I want.

I want something to run with the stepdads vette too. Lol. I've got a 50 f1 i built a 450 hp 302 for but I havnt finished it to be able to test it out yet. Hopefully that will be I the near future.

I have the offroad Roush, so my tips don't have the resonators. A buddy with the "legal" version has the resonator tips though. I really want an H or X pipe for true duals too. I'll probably have it all done at the same time. End plan for me is a giant, loud truck. I'm gonna get a Mustang for the speed cravings.

Better get that project done, sounds badass.

Hi Guys;

I have comp cams blower grinds and in my opinion they were NOT worth the hassle of the install. I would skip it. I have the OBX long tubes and resonators (no cats), duals, Roush charger etc..and the cams were a PITA to time and tune for the first tuner I used. I think for $700 you won't see that much benefit at all. I would NEVER do it again. I installed everything at once so I can't determine how much HP or performance that the cams gave me but I can say that that it was more work then benefit gained.
Spend the cash on a super charger instead.

Does it sound good though, Jeff? And is this one the white or yellow one?

I know they aren't worth the performance for the money but I really want them and I can install cams in a modular motor in about 3 hours and I need to replace the chains any ways.

They sound good but the headers and duals probably help that too. If it's easy for you then go for it. I just thought long term and tuning they were a hassle.

These are in my Yellow 2004. Best of luck and keep us posted.

My gear change to 4.56's was more noticeable than the cams.

Was the tuning a challenge because it's an F150? I want to say they aren't too bad to tune for on Mustangs from what I've heard

Any automatic will be more difficult to get the drivability right on than a straight shift, but I wouldnt think it would be a challenge.

True, but some of the cam'd vehicles I've seen have been autos. Though I do have to say a majority were manual . . .

Guys with the right tuner cams are 100% worth it. Any of you interested in cams need to call Bart at hitech Motorsports. He will sell you the correct grinds for your application and he is a genius at mod motors. He has logged countless dyno hours testing different grinds.

I installed my cams in my driveway at home in four hours time. Granted mine is a 2valve so no vct to deal with. A properly tuned 4.6 or 5.4 will pick up a solid 25-50 hp with cams.

Also don't use any canned tunes or mail order tunes for a cammed vehicle. You have to have that vehicle dyno tuned or at least wideband tuned for it to be right. The 5.4 3v takes a little more tuning effort but well worth it. The 4.6 2v is a lot easier without the vct to worry about.
