Holy crap$$$$

Just got a quote from Robert Horne Ford in Phoenix, az, for doing a tune up... $325 +tx, and if a plug breaks 2 hrs labaor each ($220) and that dosen't include any new wires if needed ($60)...
I can do this job for around $200, including plugs, wires and extraction tool!

Wish me luck...

Call around. Removing the broken plugs for a trained service tech should only take a few minutes. There ripping Fords customers off.. 325 for the plug change is not unreasonable if the follow fords TSB and all.. Doing it your self is a good idea to..

i called around and had mine done for 325 no matter how many broke, including parts and labor plus a fuel treatment.

I wouldn't take it to that dealer because, to my knowledge, standard time on a broken plug is 1 hour, not 2. That doesn't sound right. Somebody charging $110 an hour should be a damn good mechanic, not need two hours to remove a broken plug, especially not a Ford tech who should know how to easily remove broken plugs. I paid about $750 for my plug change with 3 broken @ 1 hour a piece ($100/hr). That could easily balloon into a $1,500 plug change at that rate if 5 broke

That seems allot fairer, - since the extractions go pretty quick now.

You do realize the tech likely makes 1/5th of the labor rate, or less than 1/5th?

Not including benefits maybe. Benefits have an hourly rate value as well. Specially with a large family...

I use to really love the skilled trades vacation pay programs $$$$

Yes, but the dealership is who I'm "accusing" not the tech. The dealer has the tech, who is or should be highly trained, doing the work. If that dealer's techs aren't good enough for them to charge a reasonable price, that isn't our fault, take it somewhere else. But yes, I'm not accusing any fault by the tech, just the dealer who employs him.

This sounds great! Can they move their dealership to Texas?

I do, you've always just been too far north for me. I'm up in college station right now, which is a lot closer than Houston, but it's still a 4 ish hour drive to the DFW area I think

Glad my mechanic is cheap. Mine, bought the plugs, a fuel filter, installed them, and installed my bilstein 5100's for around $200.
