Question on headers

So havent been on here in a while been underway alot. I have a question on headers and what I need to do change out my stock ones? Here is the issue... a while back I blew my exaust manifold and instead of getting a new one I think it would be a better idea if I just replace the headers. Is there a brand I should be looking at? Do I get short or long? What other parts if any do I need to do this job. Any help would be awesome. Thanks ya'll

5.4 motor? Dynatech long tubes if money is not an option. I have the OBX long tubes and am still chasing down a leak.

If a 5.4, get the OBX long tubes. Dynatech and StainlessWorks are better, but cost 2.5-3 times as much. I put a thread together with all the info you need to know down to the last bolt pretty much, I'll track the link down for ya.

If you have a 4.6, I think Pacesetter might make some, but not too sure. Either way, your choices are very limited and PS might be the only company that makes them.

I have the OBX kit on my 5.4 as well and am also trying to figure out a potential leak. I've had a pair of techs at my dealership listen to it and they said it's possibly leaking, but it's so borderline leaking/ not leaking and even if it is leaking, it's extremely minor. Our exhaust "guru" said the light ticking could just be a characteristic of the stainless and different shape of the headers, I dunno. Whatever's going on, it was worth the $1,000 in savings, I'll tell you that much.

Stealth, I thought you finally got yours sorted out? I think someone told me your leak was better/cured swapping from OEM to OBX gaskets?

Here's the thread:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask or PM me. I'm glad to help and usually hop on here a couple times per day.

I tried to cure it by having the clamped piping welded but it didn't help. I think it's the collectors, or the gasket on the driver's side (thank God).

I'd go Dynatech. Wish I had.

I don't know if I'd consider it a true issue, the only thing potentially leaking on mine are the gaskets where the manifold meets the heads. And I have a few other things at play than just the headers. Plus I, and I'm sure the same goes for Stealth, am extremely **** about everything on my truck. If you were to search around, most people are running the OBXs and most people never have any issues.

But spending $1,500 on headers for our trucks is absurd, I can't justify that at all. Unless you're building a performance vehicles and trying to squeeze every last bit of HP out and you need extremely high quality headers, that price is outrageous compared to the OBXs. American Racing has some that might be $1,200-1,400 or so, but I can't remember. Shorties don't do sh*t btw, other than noise, and some are harder to fit then long tubes.

But that link I posted covers everything else no matter what you go with. It saves HOURS of searching threads trying to find info.

Pacesetter isn't a bad header but the price definitely is right! But do yourself a favor and get the ceramic coated and not the painted. Had mine for 4 years now and still love them.
