2007 F150 FX4 5.4L Remanufacture or Used Engine?

I have a 2007 FX4 5.4L engine with 80K that I have given up on. I have had the heads redone, new cam phasers, lifters, Variable timeing selenoieds, timing chains, etc... After all work Engine ran noisey, ratteling at low rpms, ok at higher rpms. Ran for about a week and while starting one morning more noise and rattling than privious and engine starting missing. I am currently short on in the bank account so I am considering a used engine. I have seen adds for remanufacture engines so my questions are as follows:
Any advise on used engines and any recommended vendors for used engines?
Can these new modular engines actually be rebuilted?
Any recommended engine remanufacture vendors or is the cost too close to a new dealer engine?

Thanks for all and any info, trying to get back on the road as economic as possible.

What was the original reason for having the heads etc done with only 80k on the engine or were all these noise issues present prior to the basic rebuild and the reason for the rebuild? reason I ask is because if the noise problems just started then I would suspect something was left out or may be loose from the rework and its possible this engine can still be salvaged.

I'd look for an engine out of a very late model truck if it were me. The later models had improvements they fixed the spark plug issue and addresed the cam phaser flaws. 09-10. Find one in a totaled truck..

you could look here. New truck engines have really shot up in price. Expect to pay 2500 minimum for a decent used motor. I'd try callin local yards..

Greetings and thanks to all for your suggestions. I got busy with job, kids and truck and rolled the dice on a remanufactured engin. Was not able to find a used engin that I felt comfortable with for the money being asked. Its been about 8 months now with rebuild engin bought on line. Over all was a pleasent experience. Engin was shipped in clam shell contiainer and old engin pick up and shipped in same container. Engin running well so for so good. Once again thanks for all for time and input.
