2001 F150 4.6 Replace/Repair/Rebuild HELP!!!
2001 F150 4.6 Replace/Repair/Rebuild HELP!!!
I have a 2001 F150 4.6 Romeo engine. Right now i am stuck and need to figure out what to do...My mechanic and I have replaced the entire timing chain assembly in my truck thinking that may have been the issue. The timing chain on the driver side was loose but once we put everything back together the same sound coming from the topside and loudly from the oil pan area. (the sound would only occur after driving a while and it sounded like a chain being dragged across metal)
He believes that I more than likely there is a worn rod bearing which at this point makes a lot of sense considering i only pulled out around 2qts of oil when i did the oil change (don't hate me I let some household issue make me lose track of my oil change times).
Here is my question to you all should i replace the engine with a rebuilt/jasper? or repair it?
I just got a quote from jasper the rebuilt motor in my area will run around 3800!
I am already around 1600 in the hole currently for a repair that didn't solve the problem.
If i get a rebuilt motor should i go with jasper? If not any recommendations on any cheaper reputable motors? I am not really into swapping over the a 5.4 unless there is a serious reduction in cost.
I want to know if it is worth fixing at this point as well....this is my daily driver carpooling is taking a toll.
I need everyone's advice on this...I can't tackle this job by myself as i would for anything else...just don't have the garage nor the tools
Please Help!

in that case, I'd look for what ever longblock is going to provie the best warranty
I haven't heard anything bad about the jasper motors for a while, but 3800 for a stock motor is a chunk of change...
with that kind of price, I'd be looking into a lower mileage 2 valve 5.4 to swap in

How many miles are on your truck? What has the service been? How many of those miles did you put on it?
I think i would have to drop the oil pan and take a look at the bearings before I'd automatically replace the engine spending that kind of money.
When buying an engine, don't go for the cheap price. What does Ford charge for a rebuilt?
I think I would search for a good used engine unless I was sure I was going to keep the truck for another 200,000 miles.

I trust my mechanic to do the install but I just want to make sure Jasper is the best...
