Performance

I have a 2002 F150 FX4 with a 5.4L Triton. My truck is currently completely stock and I would like to get more out of this engine performance wise. What would be my best bang for my buck?

My 5.4 engine woke up when I installed the Superchips 1715 program. It improved the throttle response significantly and seat of the pants measured hp by about 20hp. It also improved the gas mileage a little. I highly recommend it. You may be able to find a used program on the classifieds here on this site like I did.

I also installed the Superchips program in my 05 Dodge Magnum 5.7 Hemi. It was advertised to add 12 hp and 15 ft lbs of torque and that is what it did. The Superchips program did a lot more for my truck than it did for the Hemi.

Actually, for that model year, get rid of the Fan clutch, replace w/e-Fans. That right there frees up to 15 hp. Those Fan clutches are hogs. So a Mark VIII e-fan swap is a good choice. I believe Long Tube headers can benefit, IF you set everything else up right with the exhaust , - no restrictions! An intake, - just a tube is all you need for that year. IMO, the Volant set up with Amsoil dry nano fiber media/element is a good choice. Don't run a K&N oiled element with that model year. Tuning/dialing it in after those mods, you should notice some difference.

Those are just little things you can do. With the Gotts mod for your intake, you increase air on demand, if you ever need it.

If power bug continues to gnaw at you, you'll need head work and/or a superchager. When you get close to 500 horse under the hood, they're a blast!
