Timing chain might be loose?

Hey guys, so the whole time I've had this truck, about 50% of cold starts produce some sort of kinda metal on metal sorta sound from the front of the engine. Hot starts it almost never does it. And it's also only when starting the truck. Had a couple of my friends check it out and said that it might be the timing chain. Does this sound right and how hard is it to do that whole job and how much? Thanks!

If it were me, I'd pull the timing cover and inspect the guides closely. If no abnormal wear, replace the tensioners. They operate with oil pressure. When doing a cold start, they rely only on the internal spring to supply enough tension for the first few seconds until oil pressure is built.

If the guides are broken or worn down to metal, replace them along with the tensioners.

X2, also, eliminate an exhaust leak at the manifold, check your pcv valve for proper operation and of coarse... make sure your using a quality oil filter

typically the timing components will make a "clatter" banging metal sound.

You could have a broken guide or weaken tensioner, or both

Ok is this a hard job needing any special tools? I just started at Vatozone so I do get a decent discount on what I can get my hands on also.
