Is a 2005 F150 worth keeping?
Is a 2005 F150 4x4 worth hanging onto, or should I sell it while it runs? It runs fine, just scares the heck outta me with all the "issues" that the 5.4 triton 3V has. From what I have read, there are mixed feelings on this pickup. Some people downright hate it and several enjoy it. I fall under the enjoyment category, but engines dont run on optimism. I guess I am just kickng a dead horse with this topic, but my days are spent figuring out how to fix my engine that runs fine..
So you enjoy it,,,but you hate it at the same time???
How does it run fine if your trying to " figure out how to fix my engine". Also how you have time to drive it if your trying to figure out how to fix it????
If you dont have any major problems with the truck,,,, mostly spark plugs,,, i would keep it. How long have you had???
good luck with decision

You can have more problems with a new truck or car of any brand. I am still driving my 97 F150 4x4 4.6. I have replaced front end parts rear axle bearings and seals cyl head's and gaskets and a few small things but it still looks and runs like new....Love that truck. Told my wife she can bury me in it...lol. She just smiled at me.
my apologies for the delayed reply.. Got caught up at work. Good to have a break finally. So, this truck runs good on most days. Once in awhile it runs a little sluggish, but opening her up on the freeway seems to get her running strong again. When it comes to the sound of the engine, it definitely has the clicking of the fuel injectors. The cam phaser is only noticeable at around 850 to 1000 rpms, but that is not all the time. usually the motor is so quiet I cannot hear it running, and the clickety clack of the injectors lets me know that she is still alive haha. I just ordered the Lisle tool for the broken plugs, and I've got my ratchet ready to go when the weather permits. The truck has 92000 miles on it, and I would be willing to bet that the plugs are original. also needs some new tires. I don't think it's nickel and diming me, and I still owe enough money on it that getting out of it is not really an option at this point. So naturally I have decided to keep it. I love this truck, some days I wish it was a manual transmission, but it hasn't let me down yet. I'm going to keep her. :-)

well you did not mention what state you live in.
IF you're in the Denver area then I would tell you to go to "go ford" on Arapahoe road- only cost me $250 for a plug change and no broken plugs ( they charge per broken plug up to a max of $100 if all 8 get broken) so the max it could cost you is $350.
less then 100k on a 7-8 year old truck, no major problems - keep it !!!!!

Here we go.... spark plug time. 3.5 hours later all 8 plugs squeeked their way out. Got some new COPs from ACCEL (amazon) to put in with the new double platinums. Cheers to a day of luck. The old plugs were coated with carbon and the place where the plug sits also had some buildup, but it is out of reach. Hopefully she'll run smooth after all is said and done.
What brand plugs you get? You usually wanna stick with Motorcraft. and I believe I read the accel c.o.p.s aren't that good.
but good job on not breaking the plugs. That doesn't happen to often

I decided on using the Champion plugs, just to see how many miles I can get out of them. As for the accel COPs that is unfortunate to hear that they are not very good. I have looked up some forums about them, and can confirm that they are not everybody's favorite. Bummer, but they are already in place and making the 5.4 run nice and smooth so we'll see what happens..
