The manual calls for 5W 30 oil. Is that really the best year round protection in the 4.6? Is there one brand that is preferable? This might get some contraversy.

Thanks, I found it. It sure was alot of reading. Some interesting and not so interesting stuff.

I am up in Minnesota. It gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. I will have to consider this.

Michael R: you're right about the controversey but it's already in another topic (I think) called moter oil survey. I use 10w30 and that thread caused me to start having my oil anilized every 3000 right before the oil change. All the figures show my engine is running VERY well on this oil. Please note that I'm in the south and very rarly drive in temps colder than 32 degrees. Your location could make a difference.
