Squealing!!
Squealing!!
Hey everyone. I read most of the posts to do with belt squealing and didnt come up with anything specific.
My 2004 F-150 has a squeal in the belt system (I assume) whenever I come out of a car wash.
It goes away after a week or so. Just in time for another wash!
Anyone????

1st check the tensioner, if it's ok, then
2. check belt for condition (using a gauge- free from gates, etc.)
if everything is ok, then head to you nearest hardware store (real- not Lowes, etc.) they will have lube stick, it is solid and used to apply to "squeaky doors"- in the jambs....it will not damage the belt, with the engine running lightly apply it to both surfaces of the belt....that should take care of it.

You might as well just take the belt off. That would also stop the squealing...

The entire purpose of the belt is to transfer power to the various pulleys. Coating it with grease will reduce the power transfer and could cause problems with the other systems.
Plus this is not a fix. If the belt is the cause of the noise then its because the belt is starting to slip (its old and stretched out). Greasing it will just increase the slip and make the problem worse (but quieter).
Fix the real issue. It either needs a new belt or a new tensioner.
No/x/5 lol. What's wrong with you guys ? You change them both, belt, tensioiner at the same time. Well that's what's recommended anyway.
If you want to further that, the idler as well. - They don't last that long either. Cheap bearings.
You don't just do the belt anymore, - unless your into throwing mo money away after your towed from the side of road.
You can also upgrade the bearings if desired.
