Ford Says I need a New Ford Long Block: 7,600

Check engine light came on after I was hearing a weird noise on acceleration, deceleration, stopping. Especially when stopping it sounded like something clanking underneath. I thought it was the cats. Anyway, long story short, they say it was way low on oil and oil pressure, and the rings are shot. They claim it will be more expensive to rebuild than to buy a long block. It is supercharged with 122k miles. But how do I know they are not full of it? What options do I have? Thx

I'm sure there's a WHOLE LOT of information that you haven't bothered to relay.

Anyway, shop around. You can likely get a Jasper installed for half that or less.

If you ran it out of oil, the engine is probably toast and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

What else do you need?
How about the circumstances that led to the failure and diagnosis? Aftermarket accessories on intake tract?

You could also get a second opinion from an independent shop. Perhaps you have a local "speed" shop in your area that has expertise in your configuration.

Sometimes, despite having done nothing obviously out of the ordinary, stuff just breaks. Luck of the draw.

With the supersharger etc., I suppose it may have caused premature failure. It runs fine since they put the 4 quarts of oil in.

Yeah, needing 4 quarts of oil out of a 5 or 6 quart capacity probably had something to do with it.....

at this point, might as well run it till it blows!

i have a question tho. how can they determine the rings are bad if they didnt take out the pistons?

Run it until you find a cheap long / Short motor.

Is it running ok now?

That's what I wonder--how they know for sure. But no oil is leaking outside the block. It never burned oil before. Then suddenly it is down 4 quarts. When I drove it home it drove fine, but I am not driving it right now until I figure out what to do with it.
