A rotten egg or clorine smell is the sign of a catalytic coverter in trouble.

TELLENBERGER,

You mean a sulfur smell? I though it just happened at cold startup, or thats when I can smell it.

I think we are all of the same opinion, just a matter of what it smells like. Are you sure it is your truck that smells and not some other vehicle near you at an intersection?

firecrackers smell like rotten eggs? hmmm, I think F-Trucks has to reply on that part. I knew about the rotten eggs=catalytic conv. but gunpowder like smell? hilly regions? stop light? sounds to me like whenever the transmission is under load ie taking off from a stop or hills? I am guessing of course.

Been a really long time since I learned this stuff, but I believe it's H2S in the exhaust that smells like rotten eggs. This is bad stuff because when it combines with moisture in the air, you get... H2SO4 (sulfuric acid) that falls back on your truck in the form of acid rain.

Yes, eggs have sulfur in them. So does the explosive used in firecrackers and gun powder. F-trucks probably has a nose that's sensitive to sulfur.

Like Pkrwud and Tellenberger have said, it sounds like a bad catalytic converter.
