Engine to transmission dowels - how critical?
Engine to transmission dowels - how critical?
Well the 4.6 is out and the 5.4 is in... sort of.
After going through the agony of getting the trans housing, engine, converter to flex plate studs all aligned and together, I walked over to my newly orphaned 4.6 to notice something to my horror. It had the engine to trans dowels still in the engine!!!
The 5.4 had none. I need to know from the experts if this is going to be a problem. My intuition says yes, but I'm hopeful the converter boss does a good enough job of keeping everything aligned. If not, I think I might end up lighting this b!tch on fire and role it into the lake! I'm not joking.
As a side note, I give a lot of credit to the people that work on these trucks for a living or have done this swap. This is hands down the toughest vehicle I have EVER worked on. Nothing is easy to access and almost everything requires some creativity to accomplish. I just hope this thing runs right when it's all said and done.
