Any one out there that has a F150, 4.2, 1997 truck, and has engine trouble, please report it to Ford. I just recently had to replace my engine, cost 4800.00 dollars, unreal, at 68000 miles. Just out of warranty. Ford says the more calls they have, the more of a chance of recall. For those who have not have engine probelms, watch out, Any signs of not cranking, any noise, not sounding to well, go get checked out.

FYI, a guy I work with recently replace a 4.2 in his 97 F150 due to a bearing failure. He had 68,000 mi. Ford wouldn't give him the time of day.

 

CALL TO REPORT, SINCE THEN, I KNOW OF 6 THAT HAS REPORTED AND HAD TO REPLACE THEIR ENGINE, MAYBE IF WE STAY ON THEM THEY WILL HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.

You did not say what was wrong with your truck. I had to have my motor replaced from a blown head gasket on the #3 cylinder. The truck had around 50, 000 on it, and right before that it was in for the timing chain cover gasket leaking anti-freeze. Of course they (Ford) said it had nothing to with the #3 cylinder blowing out. But now the truck is working good. I took it to Man-O-War Ford for the repair in Lexington Ky. (I'll NEVER go back there that for sure) Left my truck outside for over 3 months in the winter weather and they had to buy me a new transmission from it rusting up on me along with other parts that had rusted.

97 V6 5 speed
