Before I got my chip, my truck would reach the cutoff. I haven't tried since I added the chip

Caddpro,

He means the top speed limiter.

Fordxl,

Maybe you need the superchip. Some top speed limiters cut off at 96 mph.

I had a 98 f150 STX with a 4.2 and a 5 speed and it could reach the limit in 4th gear no problem. I also had a 3.55 rear end.

Fordxl the V8's have the same thing happen to them you need to get a chip to over ride the speed limiter in your truck.

Question

Where do you people drive that you need to worry about the top speed limiter?

I don't think the standard F150 is very safe at speeds over 90 mph on public roads. The braking and evasive maneuvering capabilities just aren't there on a typical full-size pickup.

The Lightning was designed for these high speeds, with low profile, wide, soft high-speed tires and (I think) beefier brakes. The Lightning's overall lower profile surely helps with high speed stability as well.

If it's high speed you desire, get a sports car or a high-performance sedan (my wife's Mercedes-Benz is rock-solid at 110 mph).

I'm typically not comfortable with anything over about 75 mph in my F150. It depends on the vehicle. I'm more comfortable at 65 mph on my motorcycle, but 90mph is a breeze in my wife's car.

Ford XL,
Its not just your truck, I just bought a 98 f150 4x4 v6 5sp. I got it used with 19,000 miles. It seemed like it took weeks to bump into the speed limiter. I put K&N filter($40) in it, and had it dualed out at a local muffler shop with a flowmaster muffler and all aluminized pipe($200total). This really brought that little v6 to life. she's downright fast. it gets to the top in no time at all now and she loves to rev. Sorry, but I have no real info on mileage, cuz I put less than 500 miles on it before I did these.

BigBunnell,
did you go with true duals or a cat-back?
what model flowmaster(s) to you get?
straight out the back or to the side?
