Put a new set of motorcraft wires on it, if they haven't already been changed.

Yea, they do that with an ignition problem when you disconnect the battery. When it's a low grade sort of problem. They'll seem to run well for a short period and end up in the same rut.

Sounds like a coil pack short.

Packs are interchangeable, so swap from one side to the other to determine a coil problem.

Just changed the plug wires. And the the rest of the plugs. Not missing as bad or as often. So just swap the packs and then what?

Swap the coil packs from one side to the other as jbrew suggested, and see if the miss moves.

You have to leave it disconnected for 10 minutes to reset the codes.

Probably just a bad mount/connection on 3.

It could be even multiple coil packs bad. On my 4.6 I had to do 3 of them with in a coulple week's even if it only says that one cylinder. Another way to test the coil backs is to have someone put it on drive hold the break to about 2 grand when it starts to skip and unplug the coil packs one at a time. If u unplug one and the motor doesn't change as in pick up more skip then that's the bad pack. It's just a common thing with these motors. This technique may be dangerous but works.

Yea but, they only have 2 coil packs. None of these trucks use 3.

There should be individual coils on each plug also that go bad frequently. There is one per cylinder, should be I thing a number 10 socket to take its one bolt out. I will post an advance auto link of msd ones that will show what I mean.
